Roxbury Adventure

My husband thought it was too cold for a hike – I told him not for us adventurers J! We bundled up and headed over to Roxbury’s Mine Hill Preserve. Very cool hiking trails leading to remnants of the old iron making complex from the 1800’s, including the roasting ovens and blast furnace. There is lots of information to read and markers showing where everything was in its heyday. We didn’t examine all of it, considering it was 19 degrees, but the history is detailed through their website links. Next time we’ll take the longer trails to the quarry bridge and the donkey trail. We picked up a late morning snack at the Roxbury Market & Deli, and found out the owner, Wayne Ferris, is cousins with the owner of Ferris Acres Ice Cream, and they have some stocked at the market for the winter!  We rode up to Goshen for our first visit to Sunset Meadows Vineyards. They recently purchased over 100 additional acres, and when it is fully operational they will be the largest producing vineyard in New England. The chocolate & wine paring was very good. Miranda Vineyards is just around the corner, so we took our first trip there as well. They also do a chocolate and wine tasting, but considering we just had five pieces of chocolate each, we’ll save that for the spring! Their wine has no preservatives so they only sell it there to guarantee the quality. You can enjoy live music every Sunday and are allowed bring your own food; some people even bring their own grills. We got home just as the snow was really starting up, time to plan the next adventure!
